Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, announced his intention to run for the state governorship in 2024. On Monday morning.
He formally declared his candidacy for the Peoples Democratic Party ticket in the upcoming party primaries. Shaibu has held the position of deputy governor in the state since 2016.
Following his official announcement, Shaibu launched his campaign headquarters in Benin City, the state capital, at an event crowded with party supporters in branded accoutrements.
“After extensive consultations, it was crucial to communicate the outcome of our deliberations to our people. The verdict is clear: they have urged me to run,” stated Shaibu.
The 53-year-old politician emphasized his dedication to the state’s development, expressing his commitment to rejuvenating the South-South state.
Hailing from the Edo North Senatorial District, the same as former governor and current legislator Adams Oshiomhole, Shaibu declared his resolve to contribute to the state’s prosperity.
In the previous election, Obaseki and Shaibu secured victory over APC’s Osagie Ize-Iyamu, despite the latter receiving support from Oshiomhole.
