Lagos as a city in Nigeria is currently experiencing hike in transportation. On a daily basis, the fare that customers who transported themselves within the city by bus paid rose by 50%. For example commuting from CMS to the AJAH suburb costs N400-N500 but since the recent fuel scarcity, commuters complain of paying as much as N800 – N1000 which is about 50% of what it used to be.
Same as going from AJAH TO OSHODI which was N800 but now N1500 or more, same applies across the various cities in Lagos.
Even with the country’s inflation, Nigerians keep spending more. This is hurting several households.
The question?
Is this rise tied majorly to the fuel scarcity in the country, or are the road transport workers taking advantage of the situation?
The Peoples Plight
While commuters still groan over the ban of Okada due to the poor transportation system, coupled with growing population in the state. In Lagos the journey of 30km can take five or more hours due to the never-ending traffic jam. This hasn’t been easy for majority of commuters and amidst this, people are still faced with the rise in transportation, fuel scarcity and hike in commodities.
How did the increase reflect in states?
Other states are faced with same challenge. However, Lagos and Abuja are the two major states affected by fuel scarcity and price increase.
